The Poplar House renovation took a very typical Halifax home and updated it for a busy growing family. The design included a 17’ x 17’ addition, added a living room and master suite above while simultaneously reorganizing the living spaces to be more open and functional. The heart of the new living space is the large working surface of the central kitchen peninsula that is used by the entire family for everything from folding laundry and homework to cooking and entertaining. The new living room is dropped three steps to give a more generous ceiling height and improved sightlines to the yard through the floor to ceiling windows. A low deck completes the transition to the outdoors and provides a sunny aspect for keeping an eye on the pirate-themed treehouse.
