passive house performance

Passive House (PassiveHaus), is a German engineered certification that is the world's most stringent energy efficiency building standard. Passive House provides energy savings of up to 80% over conventional construction while improving comfort and air quality. We've designed several Passive House buildings including the Solterre Concept House.

Passive house design focuses on

  • super-insulation

  • airtightness

  • high performance windows

  • incorporating high efficiency heat recovery ventilation

  • minimizing thermal bridges

Together these strategies help to reduce the overall long term operating costs of the building, reducing energy used for heating by up to 85%. Passive house design is a high value investment in energy-efficiency, carbon reduction, building quality and occupant comfort. Certification is not a requirement to achieving these benefits.
