What a time it has been at Solterre Design. Last week we saw the Concept House achieve its LEED platinum certification and Jennifer and Keith gave a presentation at the CaGBC Atlantic Chapter's BuildGreen Atlantic conference. Both events were sandwiched in between two open houses at the Concept House - the last of which more than 70 people stopped in!

This week, Keith travelled to Vancouver to attend the CaGBC National Conference and Expo, where he was awarded a Green Building Campion award! While he was away, we learned the Concept House has won a Lieutenant Governor's Award of Merit for Architecture.

The week finishes off tomorrow with Jennifer presenting at the RAIC's Festival of Architecture. The talk, titled: "[Re]drafted Heritage: A Green Housing Development on a Mature Urban Estate" details a new green-minded bareland condominium development on an expansive historic urban estate located in the eclectic community of Jollimore.

Concept (Open) House A Certified Hit!

Thanks to all who joined Jennifer, Keith and family at the Solterre Concept House open house this past Saturday (June 1st).  More than 70 new and familiar faces stopped in during the day. We hope everyone enjoyed the experience, and are interested to hear what your thoughts on the experience.

Feel free to chime in on the conversation and please send us your comments: likes? dislikes? What features might you consider for your next home or renovation?

Thanks again to everyone who stopped in! For anyone who missed it, another open house is planned for this coming fall. Details will be posted to our blog and facebook page.

Platinum is forever: Solterre Concept House Achieves Highest LEED Rating

"On behalf of the Canada Green Building Council, we want to congratulate you on achieving LEED Canada certification. Your project's final LEED Canada rating corresponds to the Platinum certification level in the LEED Canada for Homes Rating System."

Congratulations to the many people who worked so very hard to make this happen! This off-grid, passive house candidate, and now LEED Platinum certified project exemplifies a multitude of construction methods and materials that can be used to construct an energy-efficient and environmentally friendly home of exceptional quality and beauty.

The Concept House will serve as both a showpiece and inspiration for future projects, demonstrating 20 years of green design experience coupled with environmentally-sensitive architecture and building products.

Great job everyone!

CaGBC Green Building Champion Leadership Award

kr beard.jpg

Solterre would like to congratulate Keith Robertson on receiving the Green Building Champion Leadership Award from the Canada Green Building Council, to be awarded this June at the CaGBC's National Conference and Expo in Vancouver.

Some say Keith is receiving this award due to his contributions towards promoting green buildings in Canada, his wealth of knowledge and expertise in environmental building consulting as well as his many years experience in the field of architecture. Others say it's because of the beard.

In any case, congratulations Keith on this incredible recognition!
