Last Friday's open house at Solterre Design's Concept House was a great success. Visitors and groups passed through the off-gridhome through-out the day. Solterre staff were on hand to answer questions and point out the many green features.
Valley Waste Resource Management Office Receives Passive House Certification:
The Valley Waste Resource Management office has recently received its Passive House (Passivhaus) certification, making it the first commercial project in Canada and the largest commercial project in North America to do so. Natalie Leonard was the Passive House consultant on the project, which was designed by Solterre Design. CBCL Ltd. of Halifax was the mechanical consultant. LEED consulting services were also provided by Solterre Design, and the general contractor was Annapolis Valley-based Roscoe Construction. Prospect Community Centre Achieves LEED Silver Certification:
The Prospect Community Centre has recently achieved LEED Silver certification. DSRA was the project architect and Bird Construction was the General Contractor, while Solterre Design provided LEED consulting services. Congratulations to everyone involved on the project and to HRM for the most recent addition to their LEED certified projects.
Solterre Crew Goes for (the) Green
In what is quickly becoming an annual event at the Solterre Office, the crew took part in a late-season golf game at the Briarwood executive course. Colleen McHugh and Ian Anning shared the top prize (gloating rights) while David Gallaugher narrowly avoided a rogue (head) shot by Ian Campbell (sorry David!).
Table Tennis Tournament Round 2
The crew from Solterre Design was on hand at the Lieutenant Governor's Awards for Architecture to receive an Award of Merit for the Concept House. Congratulations to the team for all of their hard work! If you are interested in learning more about the project, another open house is planned for this Fall.
"On behalf of the Canada Green Building Council, we want to congratulate you on achieving LEED Canada certification. Your project's final LEED Canada rating corresponds to the Platinum certification level in the LEED Canada for Homes Rating System."
Congratulations to the many people who worked so very hard to make this happen! This off-grid, passive house candidate, and now LEED Platinum certified project exemplifies a multitude of construction methods and materials that can be used to construct an energy-efficient and environmentally friendly home of exceptional quality and beauty.
The Concept House will serve as both a showpiece and inspiration for future projects, demonstrating 20 years of green design experience coupled with environmentally-sensitive architecture and building products.
Great job everyone!
