This WWII gun emplacement is set 100 feet above the Atlantic Ocean near the Halifax Harbour . The site provides a dramatic setting for this renovation of a 1960's woodframe house. Upgrades were required for windows, insulation and structure. Low-e, argon-filled, aluminum clad wood windows reoriented to maximize southern gain helped the original west-facing windows which overheated the main living spaces.
The original WWII foundations were able to be reused to minimize site disruption and additional expense. The construction allows for future installation of solar heating.
